Kiwanis club encourages adolescent mothers to envision future

KINGSTON - On Thursday, Kiwanis International, a club of young professionals in Jamaica facilitated a motivational session at Kingston's Women's Centre of Jamaica Foundation (WCJF) themed, "Envisioning Your Future."

The club has conducted sessions for the Centre in the past, and this time introduced a vision board activity to the adolescent mothers. The activity allowed them to creatively construct images that portray what they envisioned their future to look like.

Sharon Coburn-Robinson, a representative from the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport ensured to be present for the session, and gave remarks on the importance of setting future goals.

The girls cut out pictures from various magazines and pasted it on their vision boards. One adolescent mother said, "I cut out a picture of a college graduate because I see myself graduating from college in the near future." Another adolescent mother cut out an image of a mother holding her child, and she said, "I put this image on my vision board because I plan to provide for my child, the best way possible."

Kiwanis' president, Dwayne Bailey said that it was important for the club to include the WCJF in their activities for the year, as one of their objective is to build better communities.
