Wives of diplomats tour Kingston Centre

KINGSTON – As a Diplomatic Week activity, spouses of Heads of Mission visited the Women’s Centre of Jamaica Foundation (WCJF) on Wednesday, with intention of gaining insights into the Programme for Adolescent Mothers.

The group was accompanied by staff from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade for the 90 minute presentation and tour of the facility. Introductions were made, and the group was warmly welcomed by WCJF’s Executive Director, Dr. Zoe Simpson. Mrs. Sharon Coburn Robinson who represented the Ministry of Culture, Gender, Entertainment and Sport, brought greetings on behalf of the Minister, Honourable Olivia Grange.

The group was favored with a presentation on the Women’s Centre, which included its history and the delivery of the Programme for Adolescent Mothers, which is the core activity of the Foundation.

The spouses, all originating from various countries – Trinidad and Tobago, Indonesia, Sierra Leone, Columbia, France and Japan – expressed deep admiration for the work of the WCJF. Members of the group also shared how their country treats with the incidence of adolescent pregnancy.

The visit ended with a tour of the Centre, including the WCJF latest initiative, the Adolescent Resource Centre – a youth-friendly space that provides a wide variety of therapies and health services to encourage a healthy and fulfilling adolescent life.
